FAQ
Thank you for visiting! I know you have lots of questions — many of which we’ll cover in your consultation. But here are the essentials to help you decide if you’re ready to book.
Minimum Hair Length and Thickness
-
For dreadlocks with extensions: 4–5 inches minimum
-
After backcombing, hair can shrink by up to a third
-
For natural dreadlocks without extensions hair should be shoulder length minimum
-
For partial or half-head dreadlocks, I recommend extensions so that the dreadlocks are as long or longer than your loose hair
Hair Health and Thickness
-
Most hair types (even fine hair) are suitable
-
If you have active hair thinning or past traction alopecia, you should consult a doctor first — dreadlocks may not be advisable right now
Dreadlock Maintenance Commitments
-
Regular maintenance is key!
-
After installation: first maintenance at 2 months
-
Ongoing maintenance: typically every 2–4 months
-
Synthetic dreads: wear for 2–3 months max, then remove and reinstall (they’re reusable)

My Signature Dreadlock Technique
I create dreadlocks using a bespoke backcomb and crochet technique that I’ve developed over 7 years.
-
Works on all hair types — straight, wavy, curly, or coily.
-
No wax, no chemicals, no twisting, no interlocking
-
Produces soft, supple dreadlocks that look stunning from day one
-
Creates seamless joins when adding extensions — no bulky or hard lumps
If you’re looking for methods like re-twists or interlocking, please note that’s not what I offer. My work is a premium, crochet-based approach.
Permanent vs Temporary Dreadlocks
-
Permanent dreadlocks and dreadlock extensions are long-term styles that require commitment. They can last for years but can only be removed by carefully combing them out (which takes time and may cause breakage) or by cutting them off.
-
Synthetic dreads offer versatility — they’re braided or wrapped in, worn for 2–3 months, and easily removed at home. They can be reused and reinstalled as often as you like.
Children and Dreadlocks
-
Dreadlocks on children's hair requires careful consideration.
-
The process is long and can be uncomfortable for sensitive scalps.
-
Be aware of school policies before committing.
-
I do accept child clients when the family fully understands the commitment.
